As a Graduate Underground Geologist at Sukari Gold Mines, you will take part in crucial aspects of our underground mining operations. This role is designed for emerging geologists who are keen to learn and contribute to resource management, geological sampling, and production geology — all while gaining hands-on experience in a professional, safety-driven mining environment.

In this position, you will support day-to-day underground production activities by working alongside experienced geologists and mine personnel. Your responsibilities will include collecting geological data, recording observations during drilling and mining operations, mapping underground workings, and organizing this information to aid in high-quality geological analysis. The data you help gather — from lithology logs, structural mapping, and orebody sampling — will directly influence decision-making processes regarding orebody characterization, resource estimation, mine planning, and safe production methods.

📚 Key Responsibilities

As part of your day-to-day duties, you will be expected to:

Assist with underground production operations — work closely with the mining team in production drifts, stopes, and development drives to support geological and mining tasks.
Collect geological data — take samples from drill cores, underground faces, and development drives; record lithologies, structural features, mineralization, vein orientations, alteration, faults, and other geological observations.
Map underground workings — assist in geological mapping of tunnels, drifts, stopes and development areas; contribute to structural and lithological maps and sections, ensuring accurate spatial and geological documentation.
Record and organize data — maintain a comprehensive and well-structured database of geological logs, sample records, assay results, structural measurements, and spatial coordinates. Ensure data integrity, traceability, and readiness for further analysis.
Work closely with senior geologists — collaborate with experienced geologists to interpret geological data, understand orebody geometry, lithological contacts, structural controls, and underground conditions. Learn how geological interpretations are incorporated into mine planning, resource estimation, and production scheduling.
Support safety and operational efficiency — by providing accurate geological data and interpretations, help contribute to safe mining practices, proper stope design, controlled ore extraction, and minimized dilution or ore loss.
Contribute to resource evaluation and mine planning tasks — assist in sampling programs, grade control initiatives, reconciliation studies, and provide geological insight that supports ore-resource management and sustainable production.

🎓 Who We Are Looking For (Qualifications & Qualities)

Educational background: A Bachelor’s degree in Geology (or closely related discipline), from a university or institution recognized by relevant academic authorities.
Technical competence: Demonstrated ability — during academic studies, internships, or other geological work — to perform geological sampling, logging of lithologies, structural measurements, mapping, and data recording.
Interest in underground mining: A strong motivation and genuine interest to work in an underground mining environment. Eagerness to learn about production geology, underground conditions, orebody geometry, and mining methods.
Analytical mindset: Aptitude for careful observation, analytical thinking and problem-solving. Ability to recognize lithological variations, structural signatures, veining, alteration zones — and to appreciate their significance in orebody characterization.
Organizational skills: Competence in recording, managing and organizing geological data (logs, sample IDs, spatial coordinates, assay results) so that the information is reliable, traceable and ready for further analysis.
Software proficiency: Familiarity with standard office software such as the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and readiness to learn mine-specific geological or database software if required.
Communication and teamwork: Strong verbal and written communication skills. Capability to work effectively in a team environment, liaising with senior geologists, mining personnel, technicians, and other stakeholders.
Observational skills and attention to detail: Keen eye for geological features and underground conditions; the ability to carefully observe, document, and flag any deviations or anomalies during sampling, logging, or mapping.
Adaptability and eagerness to learn: Willingness to work in a demanding underground environment, willing to follow safety protocols, adapt to changing conditions, and learn from experienced geologists and mine staff.
