Geologist – Resources Development

About the Role

New Porgera Limited (NPL) is seeking a committed, detail-oriented and technically strong Geologist – Resource Development to join our team and play a critical role in advancing the understanding and definition of our mineral resource base. Reporting directly to the Senior Resource Geologist, this position is central to resource growth and ensures that geological information feeding into mine planning and future production is accurate, reliable and aligned with industry standards.

The Geologist – Resource Development contributes substantially to the long-term value of the operation by designing and implementing exploration and resource definition programs, managing geological datasets, interpreting mineralization controls and supporting resource modelling initiatives. The role functions as an important link between early-stage drilling/data collection and the downstream teams responsible for mine planning, scheduling and operational decision-making.

This position interacts daily with multiple groups — including exploration, mine geology, resource geology and database teams — to ensure that geological information is captured correctly, validated thoroughly and interpreted with a high degree of technical confidence. If you are someone who thrives in a fast-paced mining environment and enjoys contributing to data-driven resource growth, this is an excellent opportunity to build a meaningful career.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will be expected to perform a wide range of duties that support the discovery, refinement and definition of NPL’s resource inventory. Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Resource Definition & Drilling Programs

  • Design and plan drilling programs across multiple drilling methods such as reverse circulation (RC), diamond core drilling, aircore and other appropriate techniques depending on geological objectives.

  • Oversee daily drilling activities to ensure programs progress on schedule and meet technical objectives.

  • Provide guidance to drill crews, contractors and technicians regarding collar locations, drilling priorities and sampling procedures.

Geological Logging, Sampling & Data Quality

  • Manage the full geological core and RC logging process, ensuring that lithology, structure, alteration, mineralization, veining and other key features are captured in detail.

  • Ensure sampling procedures follow strict QAQC standards and that all samples are collected, labelled, and dispatched correctly.

  • Monitor geological data quality closely and ensure all information is entered accurately into company databases.

Interpretation & Geological Modelling

  • Interpret geological, geochemical and assay data to refine the understanding of mineralization controls, geological structures, lithological relationships and orebody geometry.

  • Collaborate with resource geologists to update and expand 3D geological models using industry-standard software such as Leapfrog, Micromine or Datamine.

  • Support mineral resource estimation by providing accurate geological boundaries, wireframes, domaining and interpretation notes.

Collaboration & Cross-Disciplinary Support

  • Work closely with exploration teams to identify high-potential target areas that align with NPL’s resource growth strategy.

  • Liaise with database administrators to ensure complete data integrity and verify that drilling, sampling and logging information is stored correctly.

  • Prepare high-quality technical reports, including geological interpretations, cross-sections, long sections, resource updates and drilling progress summaries.

Compliance, Safety & Operational Standards

  • Ensure all drilling, sampling and QAQC procedures meet both company policies and international best practice.

  • Support compliance with any relevant regulatory reporting requirements or public disclosures.

  • Maintain strong safety awareness at all times and uphold NPL’s commitment to responsible mining and environmental protection.

  • Participate in regular safety meetings, field inspections and operational reviews.

About You

To excel in this role, candidates should demonstrate strong technical competency, strong communication skills and a proactive working style. The ideal candidate will bring:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geoscience or related earth science discipline.

  • 3+ years of relevant geological experience in resource development, mine geology or mineral exploration.

  • Proficiency with major geological modelling platforms such as Leapfrog, Micromine or Datamine.

  • Strong understanding of QAQC protocols, assay validation, drilling techniques and resource estimation principles.

  • Excellent analytical skills, the ability to interpret geological datasets and produce clear, concise technical reports.

  • Strong teamwork abilities and communication skills suitable for cross-department collaboration.

  • A proactive, safety-focused mindset and the ability to work effectively in a challenging site environment.

Mobilization Requirements

This is a PNG National position offered on a FIFO (Fly-In Fly-Out) basis. The roster rotation for this role is 21 days on / 14 days off, providing a balanced schedule for work and rest.

Successful candidates must:

  • Pass a pre-employment medical examination, including drug and alcohol testing (conducted only after the interview stage).

  • Provide a valid Police Clearance Certificate that has been issued within the past six months.

  • Be available to commence employment immediately upon confirmation.

  • Female applicants are strongly encouraged to apply as NPL supports diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
